The biggest determining factor in whether your child is ready to take private lessons is whether or not your child is able to read. Not only is this helpful for reading music and teacher notes, but it also coincides with certain stages of a child's brain development that lend themselves to learning an instrument.
No, here at Western Hills Music, we do not require our students/parents to sign any sort of contract to take lessons.
Lessons are once per week for 30 minutes. Once you have set up a time with us, your lesson will occur every week at the same time with the same instructor. During lessons your instructor will work with you based on your goals and specific objectives.
While every instrument is different, your instructor will cover similar material regardless of instrument such as repertoire, technique, and music theory.
We find that 30 minute lessons work well for most people. If you believe you would benefit from a longer lesson, that can be arranged. Each lesson is $35 per half-hour.
This is a question without a definite answer. It could take several months or several years depending what you wish to achieve. If you’re like us, it’s a lifetime of learning, enrichment, and joy.
Time to become proficient depends upon the student and the level of proficiency they wish to achieve. Just taking lessons isn’t enough to become proficient, it takes many hours of dedicated practice each week.
There are many answers to this question. Without typing a veritable essay on the subject, the bottom line is that having an experienced instructor who can give you feedback is a huge deal. The importance of having lessons personalized per student can’t be understated. Videos can’t give you feedback, or always elaborate in a way that fits your particular learning style. It’s also difficult to ask a video a question, even when there is a comments section.
Additionally, there is so much content out there, it can be overwhelming. With lessons you are getting the right dose of information, in a way that is relatable to you, and in a way that is easy for you to understand. Once again, this is because you have the ability to interact with your lesson teacher personally.
